A "brand wars" veteran with 30 years of Fortune 500 marketing experience, John's expertise has contributed to the success of a long list of well-known US brands. His career began in marketing research at General Mills where he developed the analytical skills that continue to support his insights into strategic planning. From research, he moved into marketing management where he directed the marketing activities for a premium packaged food product.
Twenty years ago, he began his career in advertising account management where he was responsible for the marketing communications and planning functions for accounts at a Top 20 worldwide advertising agency.He founded his consultancy in 1995 and has provided guidance to a variety of businesses and organizations in the areas of brand strategy development, brand positioning, marketing planning, advertising agency search management, consumer packaged goods, financial services, institutional/food service, corporate branding, retail and energy/public utilities.
Known by his clients as a strong brand advocate and trusted resource, his career client roster includes General Mills, ConAgra (Peavey/ Brownberry Ovens), 3M Corporate, 3M Scotchgard and 3M Scotch Video, Norwest Banks (Wells Fargo), U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray (ECM), Radisson Hotels Worldwide, Honeywell, Dow Chemical Consumer Brands, Target Stores, Cargill, ING ReliaStar, Malt-O-Meal Cereals, Johnsonville SaUnited Statesge, Harmon AutoGlass, Michael Foods, CenterPoint Energy, Provesta Flavor Ingredients, Pearson Candy Company, and the National Chronic Care Consortium.
He holds a B. A. in Journalism from the University of Minnesota and M.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Colorado- Boulder, and is currently Adjunct Faculty-University of Minnesota.
